It has been a while since I posted on this blog. Over the past couple of years, I have added playwright to my resume and I am in the midst of the world premiere of my play, The Wash, which is being co-produced by Impact Theatre and Synchronicity Theatre in Atlanta. The script is inspired by the Atlanta Washerwomen’s Strike of 1881, which was a real historical event where Black women laundresses refused to wash their wealthy clients’ clothes until they agreed to pay them more and the city recognized them as essential workers. The entire process of seeing this play get to the stage has been a miracle and a blessing.
The Wash is officially a recipient of a National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere, so in addition be being produced in Atlanta, the show will also be in St. Louis and Chicago. There have been many surprises, including the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, my hometown newspaper, publishing a profile on me! I’ll write more about this moment in another post, but for now I think of one of my favorite scriptures, Isaiah 55:11-12:
“It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.”
May all your days be full!
